About JIHA

Greetings from the President

The Japan Industrial Hemp Association (JIHA) was launched in April 2022 after careful planning for two years. Our principal activities are:

  • Promote functional research and support formulation development of hemp and cannabis plant-derived functional ingredients (CBD, xanthohumol, etc.) in accordance with the standards of the Pharmaceutical Safety and Environmental Health Bureau of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.
  • Support the implementation of cannabinoid testing in Japan.
  • Create guidelines for safe CBD products.
  • Plan, manage, and conduct hemp-related conferences in Japan and abroad, and create alliances with international hemp organizations.
  • Distribute functional raw materials through specialist trading companies, and stimulate healthy transactions between OEM manufacturing members of CBD supplements.
  • Promote the use of CBD supplements manufactured for in-hospital prescriptions.
  • Promote hemp cultivation research and licensing, and extract THC-free CBD raw materials from domestic hemp to foster and support a CBD industry fully compliant with domestic laws.
  • Hemp and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG): R&D support for biomass fuel, CO2 reduction building materials and other initiatives.
  • Produce CBD using hemp fermentation technology.
  • Conduct clinical trials to verify the clinical efficacy of CBD.

In recent years, the cost of medical care in Japan has continued to rise, reaching 42.2 trillion yen in 2020. In addition, the recent spread of the new coronavirus has placed a heavy burden on the medical field. I believe JIHA plays a very important role in establishing the basic concept that CBD can contribute to self-medication for minor symptoms, in validating the clinical efficacy of CBD, and in verifying that hemp is a crucial plant for achieving Sustainable Development Goals.

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all of our members, as well as the directors, councilors, counselors, secretariat, and wonderful members of the Advisory Board for their participation in our association.

In conclusion, I would like to wish everyone a prosperous year and my hope for world peace.
